Why FairShare

Group work is broken.
We fixed it.

Every institution running group coursework faces the same silent failure modes. FairShare makes them visible — and solvable.

The problem today

One person does everything.
No one can prove it.

  • Free-riders get the same grade as people who carried the project
  • Last-minute chaos as hand-in approaches — no visibility into who's stuck
  • Lecturers spend hours reconstructing evidence from email chains and chat logs
  • Moderation disputes drag on because there's no shared audit trail

What FairShare does

Every contribution is visible.
Every week, not just at submission.

  • Transparent task ownership with real-time activity signals
  • Live progress tracking next to the actual work
  • Evidence-based contribution analytics, ready at moderation time
  • Intervention alerts so staff can act before outcomes are at risk
Early feedback

What educators are saying.

For the first time I could see which students were actually doing the research versus the ones whose names were just on the cover page. The contribution dashboard is genuinely eye-opening.

DR
Dr. R. Harrington
Module Leader, Computer Science

We used to spend marking week piecing together evidence from Slack, email, and shared drives. FairShare replaced all of that with one timeline. Moderation that took two days took half a morning.

SP
Sarah P.
Senior Lecturer, Business School

The early-warning flags are the killer feature. I intervened with two groups in Week 4 that would definitely have fallen apart by submission. That alone justifies the whole platform.

TK
Tom K.
Tutor, Engineering Faculty

Students stopped complaining about free-riders because there was finally an objective record. It shifted the whole group dynamic in a way I didn't expect.

MA
Dr. M. Al-Hassan
Programme Director, Law

IT sign-off was surprisingly smooth. The subprocessor documentation and DPA readiness meant our DPO was happy within a week. Most vendors take months.

James W.
Systems Lead, Registry

Why institutions choose FairShare

Pays for itself in
staff time alone.

Three measurable outcomes that procurement, IT, and module leaders all care about.

Save staff time

Lecturers stop chasing updates. Project status, ownership, and evidence are already in one place before marking week.

  • Fewer manual check-ins per group
  • Less inbox back-and-forth
  • Faster tutorial prep

Faster, fairer moderation

When group performance is contested, staff review timelines and activity signals — not three email threads reconstructed from memory.

  • Contribution logs at moderation time
  • Clearer basis for differentiated grades
  • Fewer disputes and escalations

Intervene before it's too late

Low activity and imbalance surface earlier in the term, so tutors can coach groups before final deliverables are at risk.

  • Earlier visibility into at-risk groups
  • More targeted support from tutors
  • Fewer end-of-term surprises
💡
Bottom line

Keep your LMS for submission and grades. Use FairShare to manage the group-work process that actually consumes staff time — and that your LMS was never designed for.

What you get

Everything a group project needs.
Nothing it doesn't.

📊

Contribution analytics

Fairness index, individual scores, and participation patterns — a signal for educators, not an automated verdict. Every metric is grounded in actual task activity, not self-reported hours.

📋

Tasks & boards

Assignees, due dates, and views that match how the group plans. Kanban or list — your choice.

📄

Docs & exports

Rich collaborative documents inside the workspace. Export to hand in wherever your LMS requires.

💬

Chat & activity

Project channels and live feeds so coordination stays next to the work, not in a separate app.

🔔

Intervention alerts

Low activity and imbalance flags appear early enough for staff to act before submission pressure hits.

🔒

Institution-ready

UK GDPR and PDPL-aware. DPAs, subprocessor docs, and DPO review support included.

How FairShare fits your stack

Not a replacement.
A missing piece.

We don't replace your LMS or your chat tool — we handle the fair, visible group execution that neither was built for.

What is FairShare? +
FairShare is a workspace built for university students working in teams on assessed coursework. It tracks who contributes what, so everyone's work is visible and fairly recognised — and lecturers have the evidence they need at marking time.
Who is FairShare for? +
Primarily for universities and higher education institutions running group coursework modules. It's useful for module leaders, lecturers, and tutors who want visibility into team dynamics — and for students who want transparent credit for their work.
Is FairShare free to use? +
Yes — the Starter tier is free for up to 25 seats and requires no card. Team and Campus tiers are available for larger deployments with additional support and compliance documentation.
Does FairShare replace our LMS? +
No. FairShare sits alongside Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, and other LMS systems. Your LMS handles submission and grades; FairShare handles the group-work process that LMS tools were never built for.
How does FairShare track contributions? +
Each team member logs tasks, updates, and completed work directly in the platform. FairShare aggregates this in real time to show a breakdown of who is doing what — across writing, research, coordination, and other task types. All logs are visible to the whole team.
Can someone game the system by logging fake tasks? +
Task logs are visible to the whole team and, where enabled, to the instructor too. Transparency is the accountability mechanism — it's difficult to inflate contributions without teammates noticing.
Can lecturers and tutors see team progress? +
Yes. Instructors can be given dashboard access to monitor activity, view contribution breakdowns, and track project milestones across all groups in a module — giving a far more accurate picture than a single submitted report.
Can FairShare data inform marking decisions? +
That's entirely at the instructor's and institution's discretion. FairShare provides contribution logs, activity timelines, and task completion records — how that informs marking is a decision for your module policy, not the platform.
Who can see student contributions? +
By default, contributions are visible to the student's own team. Instructor visibility is only enabled if the institution configures it. Students always have visibility into who can access their project data.
Is student data stored securely? +
FairShare is built on a Supabase backend with row-level security, real-time data handling, and secure authentication. Project data is only accessible to authorised users within a project. See our Security & trust page for full details.
